Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21)I'm fairly certain that these verses are referenced in Argent's "It's Only Money" (both Pt. 1 and Pt. 2). Both songs have the lines "It's not what's at the door / But the money you have in your soul" and the whole stanza:
Think of what you save"It's Only Money, Pt. 2" also has a similar stanza that "It's Only Money, Pt. 1" doesn't share:
If you keep your money in a cave
But keep it in your mind
What good's a fortune left behind
Keep it in your headThey all share a focus on things that are permanent rather than things that are transient.
You won't take it with you when you're dead
Bear it in your mind
What good's a fortune left behind
