I listened to Out of the Shadows a couple days ago and noticed a few small features.
In "A Girl Like That," "down" in the lines "And when I'm down and feeling flat" and "But I've come down; she brought me back" is sung with a descending melisma (D# C# B), musically giving a sense of its meaning.
A blog to document my over-ambitious project of learning all of the songs by The Zombies and related bands

---&---
A couple days ago, I listened to Colin Blunstone & Rod Argent's Out of the Shadows for my Collection Audit project. The guitar part near the beginning of "A Girl Like That" sounded easy, so I figured that out. All I know so far though is just arpeggiated chords, which wouldn't be very interesting to listen to, so I wrote out the notation (I guessed on the key):
For the first twenty seconds of the song, the guitar part just alternates between these two measures (I have them twice in my notation).

"A Girl Like That"

When I listened to Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent's Out of the Shadows yester-day, one of the things I found was an instance of day and night parallelism in "A Girl Like That":

---&---
Spend my days without loveI'm not sure if it's intentional, but it recalls the parallelism of "Walk in the light of day and talk the night away" from "I'll Call You Mine." It's sort of opposite though in that "I'll Call You Mine" describes togetherness and that part of "A Girl Like That" is about solitude.
Spend my nights alone
